Stand Alone Program

Some schools have stand-alone programs or full-functioning student boards.

A stand-alone program has an organized board of directors including a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and liaison teacher and other board members. The program must work in conjunction with Crime Stoppers of Haldimand-Norfolk and Tillsonburg.

Activities may include:

  • Planning fund-raisers
  • Promoting the program
  • Holding regular meetings
  • Advertising the "Crime of the Week"
  • Maintaining a bank account for paying cash rewards
  • Discussing and authorize rewards for successful tips on school crimes

Stand-alone programs work the best! They are run by students for students and give today’s youth some control over their future.

Awareness Program

Some schools have awareness programs.

An awareness program helps promote Crime Stoppers within the school. Students involved in the awareness program are still eligible to apply for the William Robert Courtnage Community Service Bursary. The program must work in conjunction with Crime Stoppers of Haldimand-Norfolk and Tillsonburg.

Students may:

  • Hold meetings on a regular basis
  • Promote the program (posters, brochures...)
  • Advertise the "Crime of the Week"
  • Attend training conference and seminars
  • Organize promotional events

Awareness programs do not have a board of directors, raise funds or have a bank account.

Contact Crime Stoppers of Haldimand-Norfolk and Tillsonburg to find out how you can get involved in your school Student Crime Stoppers program.
